Cyber-enabled fraud, child exploitation among the focus for AUSTRAC and ASEAN financial intelligence
Description
AUSTRAC and ASEAN financial intelligence units (FIUs) have reinforced their commitment to combat transnational crimes at the 2024 Financial Intelligence Consultative Group (FICG) Plenary in Melbourne. Established by AUSTRAC and Indonesia in 2016, the FICG enhances collaboration and intelligence sharing to tackle crimes like money laundering and terrorism financing.
Representatives from nine ASEAN countries and observers from Japan and the Cook Islands attended. Co-chaired by AUSTRAC's John Moss, the group agreed to focus on regional information-sharing, cyber-enabled fraud, and the financing of child sexual exploitation. The launch of a new platform aims to facilitate real-time information exchange among FIUs.
